If you take a look at our team history, you'll see the names of several exemplary men who ascended through the ranks of Morehouse Debate and credit it with helping them along the way. Today we have another example of the talent that Morehouse Debate possesses, and the great things that our alumni are accomplishing.
Recently, Dash A Cooper, '01 was named to the Lawyers of Color Hot List for his exemplary accomplishments in the legal field. While at Morehouse, Mr. Cooper was an active member of Morehouse Debate, competing on the policy circuit for the team. Here's what he had to say about his time with us, what he gained from the activity, the lasting impact that debate has had on his life:
Joining the Debate Team provides my warmest memories at Morehouse.
Besides serving as a good reason to escape the monotony of campus life, my
teammates became life long friends. My debate partner, Howard Franklin (c/o
2001), ended up becoming one of my best friends--and the best man at my
wedding.
My time on the debate team also provided the confidence I draw from as a
lawyer. Being a trial lawyer demands thinking on your feet and quickly
dismantling your opponent's best arguments. It so happens, winning a debate
requires the same skill.
Congratulations to Mr. Cooper for his accomplishment, and for furthering the long legacy of Morehouse Debate Alumni who have gone on and used their skills to accomplish great things.
